The City of Mercer Island has approved a rate increase for Republic Services, the city’s disposal contractor, beginning July 1. The rate increase was scheduled as part of the contract negotiated between the city and Republic in 2009.

The rates for garbage collection will increase by an average of 1.6 percent, depending on the level of service provided.
