Lost glove

A woman living in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street reported that a bag containing a jewelry box was stolen from her residence sometime between Dec. 18 and Jan. 3. According to the incident report, the woman believes that building maintenance workers stole the bag when they entered her apartment to repair a dishwasher on Dec. 18. Three pieces of jewelry were in the bag, including a gold Shenell necklace, drop-hoop earrings with crystal rhinestones and silver studded earrings.

Theft

A woman living in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street reported that a bag containing a jewelry box was stolen from her residence sometime between Dec. 18 and Jan. 3. According to the incident report, the woman believes that building maintenance workers stole the bag when they entered her apartment to repair a dishwasher on Dec. 18. Three pieces of jewelry were in the bag, including a gold Shenell necklace, drop-hoop earrings with crystal rhinestones and silver studded earrings.

A woman living in the 7400 block of 92nd Place S.E. reported a burglary on Jan. 13. According to the incident report, the burglar entered her home sometime during the day through an unsecured window. Items missing included jewelry, cameras and checkbooks. Police lifted fingerprints from several areas. No suspect has been identified.

Two Islanders entered their home while a burglary was taking place on Jan. 13. The couple, who live in the 7500 block of 78th Avenue S.E., heard noises downstairs after arriving home at approximately 10 p.m. Suspecting a burglary, they dialed 911. Police checked the area and conducted a K-9 search for suspects, although nobody was found. The only thing reported missing was a set of keys from a car located in the garage.

QFC security personnel stopped a 36-year-old woman after she placed several items from her shopping cart into a cloth bag and exited the store without paying for the groceries on Jan. 11. Police identified the suspect at the scene and issued a criminal citation to the woman before releasing her. The items cost a total of $43.16.

A QFC store security guard detained a 76-year-old female for suspected shoplifting on Dec. 12. According to the incident report, the woman had stolen some fruit and vegetables.

Arrest

Police arrested a 27-year-old man from Lake Sammamish after finding him passed out behind the wheel at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Jan. 11. Police approached the car, which was parked on the sidewalk of S.E. 26th Street, and smelled a strong odor of intoxicants coming from the open driver’s side window. Police woke up the driver, who refused to take a breathalyzer and sobriety test. The driver was processed for physical control of a vehicle while intoxicated. Police impounded the vehicle and released the driver to his father.

Accident

An Island man’s vehicle, left unattended, rolled backward down a steep hill and onto East Mercer Way, striking a parked vehicle and crashing onto the roof of a garage on Jan. 15. According to the incident report, the man left his car at the top of his hilly driveway with the emergency brake on while he checked his mail. Before he reached the mail box, his car began to roll backwards down the hill. The man chased after the car but could not keep up. The vehicle ricocheted off a parked car across East Mercer Way, struck a large rock and crashed onto the top of a residential garage. No injuries occurred.

Fraud

A 46-year-old woman reported two fraudulent charges on her Bon Macy’s credit card on Dec. 24. The total amount of money taken from her card was $603.

Found

A white gold ring with diamonds was found in the women’s restroom of the Community Center on Jan. 13. Community Center staff turned the ring over to Mercer Island police.

Car prowls

A woman’s vehicle was prowled when she left it unlocked and parked in a driveway in the 8200 block of S.E. 38th Place overnight on Jan. 11. The following afternoon, she discovered that somebody had opened the door and taken a penlight and multi-tool from the car. No evidence was collected.

A man living in the 3800 block of 83rd Avenue S.E. reported that his car was prowled on Jan. 11. The victim had left his vehicle parked, unlocked, in his driveway. The next day, he discovered that his checkbook and wallet, containing cash and credit cards, had been stolen.

Two vehicles in the 4700 block of Forest Avenue S.E. were prowled on the night of Jan. 11. According to the incident report, both cars were left unlocked at the victim’s residence. Among the items stolen were four Starbucks gift cards, two QFC gift cards and one Gene Juarez gift card.
