Mercer Island boys, girls second in last home meet | Prep cross country

In the final home meet of the season, the Mercer Island cross country teams hosted Liberty and Mount Si at Luther Burbank Park on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Both the Mercer Island boys and girls team finished in second place.

In the final home meet of the season, the Mercer Island cross country teams hosted Liberty and Mount Si at Luther Burbank Park on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Both the Mercer Island boys and girls team finished in second place.

The boys finished with 31 points, behind Liberty’s 24 and ahead of Mount Si’s 39. The girls team had 30 points, Liberty had 25 and Mount Si 45.

Individually, Matt Wotipka won the boys meet with a time of 16:46. Daniel Mayer was third overall in 17:07, Kyle Weiss was 10th in 17:40. Nathan Gallatin finished in 17:50, Nathan Cummings in 17:57, Dylan Lesko in 17:59, Tiger McBurney in 18:04, Derek Sims in 18:22, Nathan Rosenstein in 18:23 and Steven Woolston in 18:34. Teddy Larkin had a 18:40 time, James Wilson 18:54, Scott Lee finished in 19:22 and Pablo Hernandez-Rodrigez in 19:26.

In the girls meet, Alida Scalzo was second overall in 19:28, followed by Alexa Bauman in sixth place in 20:03. Sarah Bjarnason was seventh in 20:20, Linden Elggren was ninth in 20:31 and Rachel Van Gelder finished in 10th place in 20:32. Cecelia Rosenman finished in 20:38, Ella Green in 20:50, Adrienne Suhm in 21:57, Kaya McRuer in 22:16, Elly McMillan in 22:37, Madeline Zeldes in 22:43 and Teresa Vu in 22:58. Kristine Melin finished the meet in 23:05, Mary Wingerson in 23:18, Rhiannon Holmes in 23:47, Sydney Zeldes in 24:01 and Isabel Christy finished in 24:07.

The teams will travel to the KingCo championship meet next Thursday, Oct. 18 at Lake Sammamish State Park. The boys race will begin at 2:45 p.m. and the girls at 3:15 p.m.

The top four teams and 20 individual runners will earn spots in the SeaKing District 2 meet at Lake Sammamish State Park on Thursday, Oct. 27. From there the top five teams and 25 individuals will earn places in the state meet.
