The Mercer Island girls golf team won their second consecutive District 2 title on Monday afternoon at Riverbend Golf Course in Kent.

The Mercer Island girls golf team won their second consecutive District 2 title on Monday afternoon at Riverbend Golf Course in Kent.

The Islanders took the team title, setting a new record, with 88.8 points. Second place Bainbridge had 34.3.

Individually, Chelsea Saelee was the top finisher, shooting 74. Five members of the Mercer Island girls team will compete in the state competition next week. The top 18 moved forward from districts. Haley Chinn finished second shooting 79, while Jolie Shen shot an 86 and Jacqueline Bendrick shot 90. Madison Pearson shot a 94 during the competition.

The girls team will travel next week to the 3A state tournament in Spokane, beginning May 22.

The Islander girls will be joined by James Gendreau, who qualified for the boys state tournament last fall. The boys also play in Spokane next week.
