Three Mercer Island girls have been selected to join the cast of the classic musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

The three Islanders, Trinity Conn, 12, Elisabeth Williams, 11, both of Islander Middle School, and Olivia Weber, 11, of Forest Ridge School, were chosen among more than 160 children from all over the Puget Sound and as far away as Leavenworth, all vying to be one of the 52 children to be cast in the 5th Avenue Theatre production.

The girls all began their acting careers on the Island at Youth Theatre Northwest (YTN) almost four years ago. For the group, a commitment to the demands of theater was learned there at a young age.

The production’s musical director, Ian Eisendrath, spoke about the girls and the 52-member children’s cast. “They’re incredibly focused, they’re quick, and they’re giving 100 percent of the energy,” he said. “While they’re a choir, we’re really asking them to be actors, and that’s all about individual personality. ”

“Joseph” stars American Idol finalist Anthony Fedorov, as well as Seattle’s own Jennifer Paz, who plays the narrator, and Billy Joe Huels, the lead singer of the rockabilly sensation The Dusty 45s, as the Pharaoh.
