Mercer Island gives from the heart

The 13th Annual Giving from the Heart Breakfast – held Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center – is the Island’s annual community event and fundraiser, and supports Mercer Island Youth and Family Services (MIYFS).

Guests came as early as 7 a.m. to pick up name badges and join Honorary Chairs Terry Pottmeyer and Dean Quigley for coffee. They were also invited to check out the glass hearts and Island Treats for sale in the foyer.

The breakfast program began at 7:30 a.m. It provided a summary of what MIYFS does in the community and honored Studio 904 owner Kay Hirai and LDS Bishop Ken Tracy with philanthropy awards.

Breakfast attendees were asked to make donations. Each donation of $500 or more was matched by a Maren-Swenson fund and MIFYS Board of Trustees combined gift.

Also on Wednesday, 13 local businesses donated 20 percent of their proceeds to Youth and Family Services.
