The Mercer Island Library will be closed starting Monday, May 9 for a remodel.

Limited service will begin at the temporary library location, which will be in the lower level of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 8501 SE 40th St., at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11. The temporary location will be open during regular library hours and will have holds pickup, a browsing collection and public computers.

King County Library System (KCLS) anticipates operating out of the temporary location through early July, barring any surprises or delays on the project.

This information has been posted at the library and will be made available on the library’s website and via social media. Visit the Mercer Island Library Facebook page for more information.

In addition, the library will have its programming such as Story Times, Play and Learn, Opera Preview and Talk Time.

The three-month closure is significantly less than the year-long one that was originally planned for the Island library’s remodel project. A group of Islanders banded together to protest the proposed changes, with the help of the newly reformed Mercer Island Library Board and a few city council members, ultimately resulting in KCLS delaying and altering the project’s scope.
