Mercer Island Little League’s run ends in semifinals

The Mercer Island Little League's trip to the Little League Northwest Regionals ended in the semifinals on Thursday night.

The Mercer Island Little League’s trip to the Little League Northwest Regionals ended in the semifinals on Thursday night.

The Islanders lost 6-2 in the semifinal Thursday night in California to the team from Gresham, Oregon.

Mercer Island had the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, despite no hits. Two errors by Oregon gave the Islanders the lead, but a three-run home run in the bottom of the first for Oregon,  with the bases loaded, pushed the score to 4-2 in favor of the Gresham team.

It became a pitching battle for the rest of the game, with neither team scoring in the second or third inning. Oregon added two in the bottom of the fourth for the 6-2 final score.

Washington had three hits in the game, after the first inning. Oregon posted five runs for six hits and had one error.

Mercer Island finished the tournament with a 4-1 record. Oregon will go on to face Idaho in the championships on Saturday night for a chance to play in the Little League World Series.
