The Mercer Island Little League’s trip to the Little League Northwest Regionals ended in the semifinals on Thursday night.
The Islanders lost 6-2 in the semifinal Thursday night in California to the team from Gresham, Oregon.
Mercer Island had the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, despite no hits. Two errors by Oregon gave the Islanders the lead, but a three-run home run in the bottom of the first for Oregon, with the bases loaded, pushed the score to 4-2 in favor of the Gresham team.
It became a pitching battle for the rest of the game, with neither team scoring in the second or third inning. Oregon added two in the bottom of the fourth for the 6-2 final score.
Washington had three hits in the game, after the first inning. Oregon posted five runs for six hits and had one error.
Mercer Island finished the tournament with a 4-1 record. Oregon will go on to face Idaho in the championships on Saturday night for a chance to play in the Little League World Series.
