Mercer Island native Haley Steffen is one of 24 finalists in the Church Hill Classics’ Frame My Future scholarship contest.

Steffen, who will be attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in the fall, is one of the finalists competing for one of five $1,000 scholarships.

Each entry depicts a visual representation of what the student hopes their future will look like. Steffen said her photograph of a model next to a set of stairs showcases her dream of becoming a footwear designer.

“My graphic design piece “To the Top” illustrates the elements that will contribute to my forthcoming success as a footwear design student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York as well as a freelance international designer,” she wrote in her entry for the contest. “The ascending stairs imply the direction hereafter, taking the first step to the rest of my life in addition to the stages of transition, progression and personal growth. This is my representation of coming up in the world, raising social status through ambitions.”

The public is invited to vote for their favorite among the top 24. Those with the most votes will earn the scholarships and the person with the single most votes will earn not only a scholarship, but also a donation to their school.
