Accidents A Mercer Island fire truck sideswiped a USPS mail delivery truck parked on the side of West Mercer way in the 2400 block on April 11. According to the police report, the truck was parked on the side of the road while the mailman was delivering mail to nearby residences. The fire truck was heading northbound on West Mercer Way as it passed the parked USPS truck. Its passenger side mirror struck the left side mirror of the mail delivery vehicle. The only damage was to the USPS truck’s mirror. A truck struck a sedan that was parked in the north-end QFC parking lot on April 1. According to the police report, the man was trying to park in a space but did not accurately assess his turn. The front left corner of the truck swiped the right side corner of the sedan.

Arrests

Mercer Island police arrested a Seatac woman for an outstanding felony warrant on April 11. An officer pulled over the 31-year-old woman for expired tabs and a lane violation in the 7600 block of North Mercer Way. A computer check revealed that the woman had a suspended license with five Failure To Appears. She also had a felony warrant for fraud with no bail from Miami-Dade County, Fla. The woman was arrested and booked into the King County Jail to await extradition to Florida.

Police arrested an Island man for drunk driving on April 14. According to the police report, the man was pulled over in the 3200 block of 80th Avenue S.E. for expired tabs and failing to stop at a traffic sign. The officer noticed that the driver smelled of alcohol and asked him to perform a standard field sobriety test, which he failed. The man was arrested and processed at MIPD, where a blood alcohol test showed that he was over the limit.

Found property

The Mercer Island Police Department received three boxes of miscellaneous items via Federal Express from the FBI on April 5. The items were turned over from a 1997 domestic terrorism investigation. Original documentation of the items was destroyed after they reached their retention, according to the state schedule. The items taken into property, which included books, documents, magazines, personal times and maps, were disposed of.

Theft

An employee of True Value reported that 26 green plastic totes were stolen from an unsecured area in front of the hardware store on April 13. The total lost value is $390.

An Island woman reported that her iPhone was either stolen or lost while she was attending a Little League game on April 12. According to the police report, the woman had the phone in her hand as she got out of her car to go to the Little League game. She bent down to tie her son’s shoelaces and reportedly never saw her phone again. She tried calling the phone and found that it had been turned off. She contacted AT&T representatives, who informed her that they could not track the phone, as it was off.

Hit and run

An Island woman reported a hit and run to her Nissan Pathfinder while it was parked in the parking lot of 4400 88th Ave. S.E. on April 13. According to the police report, the woman parked her vehicle at 2:30 p.m. When she returned to the car 15 minutes later, she found damage to the rear bumper. There were no witnesses. Police were unable to determine the cause.
