DESTRUCTION: At 11:28 a.m. a large amount of ammunition, four gun holsters and gun lock with two gun cases were turned over to the police department for destruction.

July 25

ILLEGAL PARKING: At 2:10 p.m. Mercer Island police cited eight cars illegally parked in the southbound lane of the entrance to Luther Burbank Park. The cars were partially blocking the entrance and creating a traffic back-up. Two car owners arrived before their cars were towed. The remaining six cars were impounded and towed from the park.

July 26

VEHICLE PROWL: At 7:29 a.m. a caller reported his rental car had been prowled overnight while parked in the 8800 block of S.E. 61st Street. The driver-side window was smashed and the caller’s Dell laptop, valued at about $1,500, was missing.

FORGERY: At 10:45 a.m. a caller reported he had received a $3,920 check and letter in the mail that appeared to be from Wells Fargo. The letter stated he was the winner of a lottery and directed the reporting party to “cash the check and pay taxes to recoup his winnings.”

FRAUD: At 2:09 p.m. a caller reported two checks had been passed on her account for a total of $2,180. Both checks were cashed in Portland, Ore.

July 27

FOUND: At 12:50 p.m. a Honda key with a remote was found in Pioneer Park and turned in to the Mercer Island Police Department. The key was placed into the MIPD’s found property.

THEFT: At 2:26 p.m. a crew member of a construction company reported a “demonstration model floor sander” missing from a residential construction site in the 3800 block of 82nd Avenue S.E. The work site was unsecured and the sander, along with other tools, was left out overnight. The sander is valued at $1,795.

July 30

DUI: At 2:31 a.m. a Mercer Island police officer stopped a 2004 infinity SUV for expired tabs and a “report of sale” more than 45 days old in the 6300 block of S.E. 28th Street. The driver, who “had a strong odor of intoxicants,” voluntarily performed a breathalyzer test and failed with a blood alcohol level of .138. The driver, a 24-year-old Mercer Island man, was taken to the Mercer Island police department, processed and released to a sober adult. The driver’s mother picked up the car.

July 31

THEFT: At 1:11 p.m. a resident of the 7200 Block of W. Mercer Way reported several electronic items including a Samsung “slider” cell phone, Canon “Sure Shot” digital camera and Dell laptop were missing after a party at her residence on July 29.

Aug. 1

FIRE: At 5:33 a.m. a caller reported a fire at the South Mercer Playfield. An engine from Station 91 responded and found a construction trailer fully engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
