Theft

A Michigan woman reported that an 18k gold charm bracelet and 18k gold engraved bangle bracelet were stolen from some luggage that she left at the entrance doorway of Aljoya House sometime between Jan. 1 and Jan. 3. According to the police report, she had left her luggage at the doorway. When she checked its contents three days later, she noticed that the bracelets were missing. The woman has filed an insurance report.

Accidents

A two-car accident occurred in the 8400 block of North Mercer Way on Jan. 4. According to the police report, an Island male said he was slowing down to find a private driveway on the left-hand side of the road. He activated his left turn signal and prepared to turn when a car behind him merged into the left lane to pass and collided with him. The driver of the second vehicle said that the car ahead of him was going less than the speed limit, so he decided to pass him. He said that the man’s turning signal was not on. No injuries were reported.

An Island man struck a bus while pulling out of his driveway on 86th Avenue S.E. on Jan. 3. According to the police report, the man was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto 86th Avenue S.E. and did not see the southbound bus. He pulled into the road and struck the bus’ front passenger side.

A fender-bender occurred on 76th Avenue S.E. on Dec. 30. According to the police report, a woman stopped at a stop sign and the car behind her bumped into her. Both drivers exchanged information. The back of the woman’s car sustained a small scratch.

A man living in the 5200 block of West Mercer Way reported that somebody had crashed into his front yard shrubs during the night of Dec. 26. According to the police report, the driver apparently spun off of West Mercer Way, struck shrubbery and ricocheted back onto the road on Dec. 26. The incident most likely occurred because the driver passed over some ice on the road and lost control. The driver did not report the incident to the property owner, who said he heard some commotion around 4 a.m.

A two-car accident occurred in the 4000 block of East Mercer Way after a car fishtailed off the road due to icy conditions on Dec. 27. According to the police report, a woman was driving northbound along East Mercer Way, making a sharp turn along the windy road when her car began fishtailing due to ice on the roadway. The car crossed into the southbound lane and struck an unoccupied vehicle parked along the side of the road. Attempts to reach the owner of the parked car were unsuccessful. Information was left on the windshield.

Burglaries

A residence in the 9000 block of North Mercer Way was burglarized on Dec. 28. According to the police report, the residence had been left unoccupied at the time of the break-in. The unknown thief entered the house from a rear bathroom window. A number of items were recovered from the resident’s back porch, including a small brass key, plastic baggy with silver-colored watch pieces, along with a silver Jules Jurgensen brand watch. Latent finger prints were taken from the scene.

A man living in the 9900 block of S.E. 35th Place reported an attempted burglary to his home on Dec. 28. According to the police report, the victim was in his bedroom when he heart knocking sounds and then glass breaking at his front door. The victim’s dog ran to the door, barking. By the time the victim arrived, the suspect was already gone.

Arrests

An officer arrested a Tacoma man for driving with a suspended license on Jan. 4. According to the police report, the man was pulled over in the 4800 block of East Mercer Way for a Failure to Transfer Title violation. The 32-year-old was arrested, cited and released.

Police arrested an Island teenager for a DUI and possession of marijuana/drug paraphernalia on Jan. 5. According to the police report, the teenager was stopped while driving in the 8100 block of Merrimount Drive for expired tabs. The officer noticed an odor of alcohol and marijuana. The driver admitted to drinking alcohol, after which he performed a Standard Field Sobriety Test and failed. Police found marijuana on the teenager and in his car, along with drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and released to his mother.

A Mercer Island man was arrested for $2,000 in outstanding warrants on Dec. 28. According to the police report, Mercer Island police contacted the 22-year-old at his Island residence, after both warrants were confirmed. The man was arrested and booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Vandalism

A woman living in the 2700 block of 72nd Avenue S.E. reported that an unknown suspect keyed the driver’s side of her Chevrolet Lumina and removed the valve stems from two of the car’s tires on Dec. 31. According to the police report, the vehicle was parked on the shoulder of the road in front of the victim’s residence.

A park employee reported graffiti on the interior walls, door and mirror of the public restroom at Island Crest Park on Dec. 29. That same day, graffiti was reported on the front wall of the restroom at Clarke Beach. Photos were taken as evidence.

Runaway

An Island man reported that his 15-year-old daughter had run away on Jan. 2. According to the police report, the man stated that he was especially worried about his daughter because she had a medical condition. The subject was located several hours later at a 17-year-old boy’s residence. Both teenagers were intoxicated. The girl received medical treatment at the residence and returned home with her father.
