July 11 MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: At 1:13 a.m. police were notified of eight damaged mailboxes on or near the 3700 blocks of 80th and 79th Avenues S.E. DRUGS: At 3:13 a.m. police arrested 24-year-old Seattle resident Denis Matute in the 5000 block of West 1-90 on a warrant for misdemeanor charges. Officers found a marijuana plant inside the suspect’s car in addition to more pot and a blue plastic container marked “Skagit Skunk.” Matute was turned over to the Medina Police Department.

July 13

CAR PROWL: At 7:57 a.m. a caller reported that someone took her checkbook, LG flip phone and white leather purse from her unlocked Saturn wagon while she was walking her dog.

CAR PROWL: The driver-side window of a Cadillac CTS was broken, and an iPod touch was taken from the car. Police were notified at 8:20 a.m. The loss and damages total about $600.

CAR PROWL: At 8:57 a.m. police were notified that the driver-side window of a Honda Civic was broken and the driver’s wallet, which was in plain view, was stolen from the center console. The total loss was about $275.

July 14

CAR PROWL: At 1:23 p.m. police were notified that a Chevy Trailblazer had been burglarized. Cash, sunglasses, a garage remote and a Starbucks card were missing from the car.

July 15

CAR PROWL: At 3:52 p.m. a caller reported that the front driver-side window of an Acura Integra parked in the 2900 block of 71st Avenue S.E. was broken. The owner of the car was out of the country at the time, but due back on July 16.

THEFT: At 10:16 p.m. a resident of the 3700 block of 79th Avenue S.E. reported that he had been robbed of a box of pre-mixed texture that had been in his garage. The Mercer Island Police Department and Bellevue K9 units responded. The suspect, 19-year-old Charles Kelly, of Mercer Island, ran from his hiding spot in a yard southeast of the crime location as the K9 unit closed in on him. A short chase ensued before Kelly was taken into custody and treated at the scene for minor “road rash” injuries sustained during the chase and capture. Kelly was booked into the King County Jail for burglary in the first degree and theft in the third degree.
