Burglary
Unknown suspects robbed a cashier at the Shell station on 78th Avenue S.E. on July 21. According to the incident report, the suspect’s vehicle pulled up to a gas pump. The driver exited the car to wash the windshield and the passenger entered the store. He told the clerk that if he did not release the pump, he would be stabbed with a knife. The clerk released the pump and the passenger stole $38.65 of regular gas. The two suspects then drove off northbound on 78th Avenue S.E. The clerk called police. The incident was possibly recorded on the store’s video security camera.
Abandoned vessel
The Mercer Island Marine Patrol located an abandoned boat in Meydenbauer Bay off the shores of Bellevue after somebody called to report the empty boat on July 20. Upon investigating the vessel, police noticed that there was an anchor out but no anchor lights. Attempts to contact the boat’s registered owner failed. Because the vessel was a hazard to boaters, it was impounded.
Mischief
A man living in the 9200 block of S.E. 70th Place reported that an unknown suspect pulled the screen door to his back deck off its track and dragged a small floor rug out onto the deck. The incident occurred at night on July 16. Raccoons are suspect.
A woman reported graffiti on the inside and outside walls of the Homestead Park restroom on July 20. According to the report, the restroom’s stall walls were covered with graffiti along with its outside walls. The estimated damage is $500.
A custodian at West Mercer Elementary School reported graffiti painted on numerous areas of the campus on July 21.
Car prowl
An Island man reported that his Isuzu Trooper’s catalytic converter was stolen while he was parked at the Park and Ride on July 21. Police are currently investigating the case. No suspects were reported.
Arrests
The Mercer Island Marine Patrol arrested an Island man for operating a vessel under the influence on July 20. Police stopped the man because he was boating with a registration violation. According to the incident report, the 29-year-old was “very slow in yielding to lights and sirens.” Once the driver stopped, the officer noticed that the inside of the boat was littered with beer cans. The Island resident admitted that he had drunk one beer. He failed his standard field sobriety test and was arrested. The boat was towed back to its owner’s dock.
A police officer arrested an 18-year-old Island man for possession of marijuana on July 20. According to the incident report, the teenager’s car was pulled over in the 7200 block of Island Crest Way for an equipment violation. The officer smelled marijuana emanating from the car’s interior. The driver denied smoking marijuana. He was arrested and his vehicle was searched. The officer discovered a small bottle filled with green matter, which later tested positive as marijuana. The suspect was cited and released.
