A 59-year-old Seattle man with a warrant from Mercer Island was detained at 2:15 a.m. by Seattle police while intoxicated, transported to the Island’s police station and booked into the Issaquah jail.

Arrests

A 22-year-old Islander was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol around 1:10 a.m. on Oct. 26 during a traffic stop in the 7500 block of S.E. 40th Street.

Island police arrested a 37-year-old Federal Way man for occupying a stolen Federal Way police car while driving on the Island just after midnight on Oct. 24 in the 4200 block of West Mercer Way. After the arrest, police found a methane pipe in the car with a duffle bag containing clothing and a phone. A purse, backpack and speakers were also inside the patrol car. A passenger of the car was interviewed and released at the scene.

Auto accidents

A 37-year-old Islander swerving to avoid running over a squirrel crashed his pickup truck into two parked cars just before 10 a.m. on Oct. 25 in the 7800 block of S.E. 32nd Street.

A 17-year-old Islander was involved in a T-bone collision that occurred around 3:10 p.m. on Oct. 23 in the intersection of S.E. 47th Street and Island Crest Way. According to the incident report, the teenager was taking a left turn to head south on Island Crest when an oncoming vehicle heading northbound struck the side of the teen’s car. The teenager suffered a bump above her right eye and the 39-year-old driver of the other car suffered a sore left leg, the accident report states. Both cars were towed from the scene.

Burglary

About $60,000 worth of art was stolen from a home in the 4600 block of East Mercer Way during the afternoon of Oct. 25. According to the police report, seven pieces of art, mostly canvas but also a glass piece, were taken from the home.

An alarm system was triggered and prevented a burglary at a home in the 3800 block of West Mercer Way at 2 p.m. on Oct. 20. According to the incident report, the homeowner found significant damage to a side door and its lock, where the burglars tried to break in.

Forgery

A 31-year-old Lynnwood woman was arrested for forgery after she attempted to return merchandise for a refund with a forged receipt around 5:40 p.m., Oct. 21, at the South-end Rite Aid. The suspect was booked into the county jail.

Thefts

An 18-year-old Islander was arrested for stealing from the North-end QFC around 5:15 p.m., Oct. 20. According to the police report, police found a glass marijuana pipe in the young man’s backpack during a search following the shoplifting accusations.

A car was stolen while parked in the 3000 block of 80th Avenue S.E. between 5:30 p.m., Oct. 23, and 10 a.m., Oct. 25. According to the police report, the vehicle was locked. Some door trim on the ground indicated a forced entry and theft.

An Islander’s Honda Element was stolen during the night of Oct. 21 while parked in the 4000 block of 78th Avenue S.E.

Over $1,400 was charged to an Islander’s credit card between Oct. 16 and 20 after the card was stolen from her purse.

A power drill was stolen from an open garage between 4:30 and 6 p.m., Oct. 20, at a home in the 7000 block of East Mercer Way. According to the incident report, the homeowner left his residence with the garage open for an hour and a half, only to find his drill missing when he returned.

Vandalism

A window near the front door of an Island home in the 3600 block of 81st Avenue S.E. was broken sometime between 5 p.m. on Oct. 19 and 3:30 p.m., Oct. 26. The estimated cost to replace the window is $350.

A rock was thrown through the driver’s side window of a car parked in the 4100 block of Boulevard Place during the night of Oct. 21. According to the police report, the car owner was unable to find his wallet the next morning, but he was not sure if it had been stolen from the car.

The driver’s side window of a Chevy Suburban was broken, as was the front seat and driver side mirror, during a car prowl that took place during the night of Oct. 24 in the 4600 block of East Mercer Way. Nothing was stolen from the vehicle.
