Mercer Island School District students win state Reflections awards

Six Mercer Island School District students will be honored on May 4 at the Washington State PTA Reflections Art Program Award Ceremony in Bellevue.

Six Mercer Island School District students will be honored on May 4 at the Washington State PTA Reflections Art Program Award Ceremony in Bellevue.

Winners include, in the ‘Dance Choreography’ category, Beatrice Lee (fifth grade, West Mercer Elementary), recipient of the Award of Merit for her dance, “Magic of Love,” in the intermediate division.

In the ‘Literature’ category, Zoe Friedland (fourth grade, West Mercer Elementary) won the Award of Excellence for her story, “The Seed,” in the intermediate division.

In the ‘Music Composition’ category, there are four winners. Eliot Geer (second grade, Lakeridge Elementary) won the Award of Merit with his piano composition, “The Wind,” for the primary division; Zoe Sheill (seventh grade, Islander Middle School) won the Award of Merit with her flute composition, “The Eye of the Storm,” for the middle school division; Christina Sun (senior, Mercer Island High School) won the Award of Merit with her piano composition, “The Magic of a Moment in a Gypsy Caravan,” for the high school division.

Stuart Burke (senior, Mercer Island High School) won the Outstanding Interpretation Award with his piano composition, “Stuart’s Magical Spontaneous Music,” in the special artist division. Burke’s entry moves onto the National PTA Reflections Art Competition in Virginia.
