Teresa Hall, a Mercer Island resident, has been awarded multiple awards in the needlepoint competition at the 2013 Washington State Fair in Puyallup.

Hall’s awards include Grand Champion, two first place awards, one second place award and an Award of Merit for her three entries into the competition.

Hall has lived on Mercer Island for over 32 years. She began needlepoint with her grandmother, Phoebe O’Neil, around the age of 10. Throughout her life, she continued to create a variety of projects ranging from Christmas stockings and ornaments. Having retired, Hall joined the American Needlepoint Guild  and the Embroidery Guild of America three years ago to supplement her learning and meet new friends with similar interests.

Like her grandmother, Hall is passing the art of needlepoint on and has begun teaching her granddaughter, Phoebe O’Rourke, 7. O’Rourke is also a Mercer Island resident and attends St. Monica School. Hall is also teaching her to garden, knit and cook.

Hall entered this year’s fair to show that a variety of things can be created and needlepoint is an art. She loves participating in her guilds and looks forward to attending one of the national conventions as well as creating items for next year’s state fair.
