Danette S. Glassy, M.D., of Mercer Island Pediatrics and a Mercer Island resident, was the recipient of this year’s Richard A. Molteni Medical Staff award for community physicians. The award recognizes members of the Seattle Children’s Hospital medical staff who stand out among their peers in their professionalism and quality of patient care.

“From early in my training, I was inspired by my mentors who worked beyond their practice to improve the lives of children. I am honored and proud to be a recipient of the Molteni award,” said Glassy, a board-certified pediatrician who joined Mercer Island Pediatrics in 1989. She is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital Residency Program.

At the presentation, a medical staff leader said of Dr. Glassy: “Danette has been a leader in the areas of advocacy for children, regularly promoting the health care of children with the state legislature. For several years, she was the chair of the Special Interest Group on Child Care at the American Academy of Pediatrics and serves on the Talaris Research Institute Advisory Board. For two years, she was the chair of the state attorney general’s Task Force on Bullying, and in 2001 she received the Cynthia F. Shurtleff Leadership Award from the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Washington (now Within Reach). She has also received a special achievement award from the AAP.”

The award honors two physicians annually for their professionalism, communication, accountability, respect, integrity and ethics, advocacy role, participation in improving care and clinical judgment. The other recipient of the 2010 Molteni Award was pediatrician Edgar “Ed” K. Marcuse, M.D., who is currently the associate medical director at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

The award was named for Richard Molteni, who was the medical director of Seattle Children’s Hospital for eight years.
