Opportunities for engagement for Mercer Island residents

City council meeting headlines from Oct. 7.

The following headlines related to opportunities for community engagement are from the Oct. 7 Mercer Island City Council meeting.

Opportunities to attend community special events/openings

* Fall Recycling Event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 25 at the Mercer Island Boat Launch located on the east end of Aubrey Davis Park.

* Town Center Trick-or-Treating Event from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, providing an opportunity to “join and stop by” many participating downtown businesses.

* Arbor Day celebration at Clarke Beach Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 25.

Opportunities to learn more/provide feedback

* Feedback on Clarke and Groveland beach parks — Three new design concepts that can be reviewed on the city’s website at https://letstalk.mercergov.org/ , and then participate in an online community survey regarding preferences and priorities for both park features, including an opportunity for parents to include feedback from children.

* Next city council meeting is at 5 p.m. on Oct. 21: Options for joining the meeting include in person at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, a Zoom link on the city’s website, and MI-TV (Channel 21). Citizen appearances: An opportunity to speak to the city council on items of interest. Speakers must register by 4 p.m. on the day of the council meeting at cityclerk@mercerisland.gov and are given three minutes to speak.

* Coffee with a Cop community event from 9-11 a.m. on Oct. 18 at Starbucks on the south end.

* Councilmember Ted Weinberg will hold his next monthly gathering at 11 a.m. on Oct. 18 for a lunch at The Crawlspace Gastropub to provide an opportunity to discuss a variety of topics of interest for Mercer Island residents.
