The following headlines related to opportunities for community engagement are from the Nov. 4 Mercer Island City Council meeting:

Opportunities to Attend Community Special Events/Openings:

* “Jake Jacobson” Pickleball Courts dedication at 4 p.m. on Nov. 18 at Luther Burbank Park.

Opportunities to Learn More/Provide Feedback:

* Second reading of regulations for housing production and permit streaming at the next city council meeting on Nov. 18.

* Next city council meeting is at 5 p.m. on Nov. 18: Options for joining the meeting include in person at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, a Zoom link on the city’s website, and MI-TV (Channel 21). Citizen appearances: An opportunity to speak to the city council on items of interest. Speakers must register by 4 p.m. on the day of the council meeting at cityclerk@mercerisland.gov and are given three minutes to speak.

* Councilmember Ted Weinberg will hold his next monthly gathering on Nov. 16 with a noon lunch at Allister restaurant on Mercer Island (7650 SE 27th St. Suite 100), providing an opportunity to discuss a variety of topics of interest for Mercer Island residents. Other Important Citizen Notices:

* Town Center landscape completed.

* Water repair project completed with East Mercer Way back open by Nov. 7.

* B&O (business and occupation) tax amendments were described as having no impact and no major changes and were accepted and will be enacted January 2026.

* Regulations for temporary uses and structures, including outdoor dining, were all accepted with two minor amendments scheduled for a second reading.
