Two car prowl suspects were arrested at 3:47 a.m. on May 27 in the 3000 block of 81st Place S.E. The suspects were identified during numerous vehicle prowls, according to the police report. Stolen property was recovered from their vehicle, a Nissan truck.

The suspects smashed the windows out of several Honda Civics and Accords, ripped a CD player out of a dashboard and stole Xbox video games, a New International Version Bible, Garmin GPS, $90 in cash, a digital scale, iPod, cell phones, and other small items. The driver was found to be in possession of marijuana. Both suspects, 19 and 21-year-old residents of Burien and SeaTac, were booked into the Issaquah Jail.

More car prowls continued over Memorial Day weekend on the South end, in the Lakes neighborhood.

May 21

Marine Patrol incident: The Marine Patrol contacted a seaplane operator on Lake Washington at 2:48 p.m. The Federal Aviation Administration was later contacted.

May 23

Bike found: Police located a bicycle in some bushes in the northeast corner of Mercerdale Field in the morning after being advised of it by a pedestrian. It had not been entered as lost or stolen, and was placed into found property at the MIPD.

May 24

Fraud: A Mercer Island woman found that $543.95 was fraudulently charged to her Visa credit card for an online purchase that was shipped to an address in Ogden, Utah, on May 17.

Theft, assault: A Mercer Island woman, 35, reported that some of her prescription medication was stolen. She named her ex-husband, who had recently come to her house, as a suspect and reported he had taken her medicine at other times in the past. The woman later reported that she was in a “physical altercation” with her 16-year-old daughter in the morning due to stress over the theft of her medication. Police contacted the daughter at school and confirmed the mother’s story.

May 26

DUI: Police stopped a speeding vehicle in the 4600 block of Island Crest Way and arrested the driver, a 21-year-old Seattle man, at 1:45 a.m. The driver admitted to drinking some beers, and failed standard field sobriety tests. He was later released to his mother.

Accident: A vehicle hit a tree and a parked vehicle after driving onto a parking curb in the Mercer Island library parking lot at 4:26 p.m. A witness described the driver, a woman in her 30s or 40s, as “slightly in shock.” The driver entered the library and left the scene without reporting the accident. The witness reported the plate number, but the driver could not be identified.

May 27

Theft: A wallet and vehicle keys were stolen out of the Mercer Island community center exercise room between 3 and 4 p.m.

Malicious mischief: A Mercer Island man’s vehicle was vandalized in front of his residence in the 4200 block of 85th Ave. S.E. sometime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

May 28

Accident: A truck and trailer went off the road after sliding backwards down the steep incline in the 7400 block of S.E. 24th Street. The truck was attempting to tow a load of dirt uphill. Transmission fluid spilled over the roadway and a stop sign was knocked down.

Car prowls: An unknown suspect broke into a Lexus in the 8100 block of S.E. 74th Place sometime after 9 p.m. A wallet was stolen, and the glove box and center console were rifled through.

Someone smashed the passenger side windows out of three vehicles in the 7700 block of 81st Place S.E. after 10 p.m. Cash was stolen out of wallets that were not taken. The estimated loss was $570.

A pickup truck’s passenger window was smashed and $10 was stolen out of the center console in the 7400 block of 81st Place S.E. sometime after 11 p.m. In the same block, a Chevrolet Suburban’s window was shattered and it was searched, but no items were stolen.

In the 7400 block of 80th Place S.E., a GPS unit was stolen out of a vehicle that had a passenger window shattered, resulting in an estimated loss of $200.

Passenger windows of two vehicles, a BMW and a Toyota Land Cruiser, were shattered in the 7300 block of 80th Place S.E. sometime after 11 p.m. Cash and a GPS unit were stolen, and the estimated loss was $250. In the same block, passenger windows were smashed out of a Ford Escape and Ford Taurus, and a third unsecured vehicle was searched. An iPod was stolen, and the loss was $150.

Two vehicles parked in a driveway in the 7500 block of 80th Place S.E. were prowled, but no items were reported missing. A window was smashed out of one vehicle. A pocket knife was submitted for fingerprints.

May 29

Car prowls: A car alarm went off at 4:30 a.m. in the 4600 block of Forest Avenue S.E. and neighbors saw a person fleeing from the car, a BMW. Nothing was stolen, but the center glove box was removed and the suspect tampered with some wires.

While searching the area in response to reported vehicle prowls, police located a ransacked Toyota van with a broken passenger window in the 7400 block of 81st Place S.E. Police also located a BMW with a damaged passenger window in a driveway in the 7500 block of 80th Place S.E. The owners did not know if any items were missing and had not heard any commotion.

Car theft: A Nissan Maxima parked at the condos in the 2500 block of 81st Avenue S.E. was stolen sometime after 9 p.m., May 28. The owner reported the theft in the morning and said he was missing a set of keys that might have been dropped in the parking lot.

Recovered vehicle: A police officer located a stolen vehicle at 4:08 p.m. parked at the condos in the 2500 block of 81st Avenue S.E. while searching the area for stolen vehicles. The vehicle, a Subaru Legacy, was next to the spot where the Nissan had been stolen earlier. It was full of stolen property likely belonging to crime victims in south King County, and the ignition was destroyed.

Found: A resident of the 6700 block of 81st Avenue S.E. found a set of boat keys in her yard that might have been stolen during the car prowls.

DUI: Police stopped a vehicle with defective taillights at 11:58 p.m. in the 7800 block of S.E. 40th Street and found that the driver had been drinking. The driver, a 21-year-old man, failed standard field sobriety tests and was arrested. The vehicle was picked up by its registered owner.

May 30

DUI: Police arrested a Mercer Island woman, 57, at 3 a.m. in the 8600 block of North Mercer Way after stopping her for not displaying her tabs correctly and driving improperly. The woman was “extremely impaired” due to drugs, according to the report. A bottle of pills was found in the vehicle and the woman refused a blood draw.

Weapons: Police contacted three high school students who were using weapons and airsoft guns while filming a school project at 11:47 a.m. in the 8600 block of S.E. 47th Street. Some of the weapons were real and others were fake, according to the report, and a pair of brass knuckles was confiscated.

Animal complaint: A dog bit an 8-year-old boy at 3:55 p.m. in the 9000 block of East Shorewood Drive, leaving a small puncture wound in his arm. The dog was released to its owner with the stipulation that it must be on a leash when it is outside.

Arrest: Police arrested a 32-year-old woman who ran a stop sign at 10:47 p.m. in the intersection of 78th Avenue S.E. and S.E. 28th Street. She was driving with a suspended license and had four counts of Failure to Appear on record.

May 31

Theft: At 4:15 p.m. police arrested a Mercer Island girl, 16, who stole credit cards, ID and $45 out of a wallet that she found in the McDonalds restroom. The wallet was recovered from a garbage can, and the suspect was released to her mother. There were three witnesses of the theft.
