Car smashes into house
No one was injured when a car rolled into a house in the 7700 block of S.E. 39th Street. At about 10 a.m. April 27, a woman left a 1997 Pontiac sedan in her garage, while she went inside her house. She told police she was in a hurry and had left the car in neutral. When she returned to get back in her car a few minutes later, the car had rolled more than 100 feet, down the driveway, across the street and into the southeast corner of the victim’s home. Two windows were smashed on the house and the house frame collapsed where the vehicle struck. The mid-section of the car’s bumper and trunk were also damaged.
Car prowls
A resident in the 6200 block of Island Crest Way reported someone a window and stole a purse from a 2003 Nissan XTerra the morning of April 27. A second vehicle at the same residence was also broken into, but the owner of that vehicle declined to file a report.
Someone broke out a window of a 1990 Toyota 4Runner sport utility vehicle in the 8400 block of S.E. 39th Street prior to 7:50 a.m. April 27. A softball bat and some cash were stolen from the vehicle.
The passenger window was broken out and a wallet stolen from a 1996 Ford Ranger truck parked in the 4700 block of 90th Avenue S.E. on April 27. The wallet contained credit cards and $40 in cash. The resident canceled the credit cards. There are no suspects.
On April 26, a resident of the 9800 block of Mercerwood Drive told police someone shattered the window of a 2003 Ford Expedition sport utility vehicle during the night. Nothing appeared to be taken from the vehicle. Damage was estimated at $500.
The window of a 2001 Honda Odyssey van was broken and a purse stolen during a youth baseball game at Lid Park, in the 2200 block of 72nd Avenue S.E., on April 23. The purse was left in plain sight on the passenger seat.
In the early morning of April 22 someone broke out a window of a 1994 Ford Explorer MPV in the 9800 block of Mercerwood Avenue. The dashboard of the vehicle was severely damaged where the CD player was stolen. The door lock on the vehicle was also damaged. Damage was estimated at $1,000.
Drug arrests
A traffic stop April 23 in the 2900 block of 78th Avenue S.E. resulted in the arrest of the driver and two passengers, one of whom was a juvenile. At about 11:15 p.m. April 23, an officer stopped a 1988 Toyota sedan because of a broken light. There was a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle. The 19-year-old driver admitted to being in possession of the drug. The driver tested positive for the drug and was arrested. Additional drugs and paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle. Two passengers, an 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, both of Mercer Island, were also arrested for suspicion of possession of marijuana.
Vandalism
Someone used a BB gun April 26 to shoot out the windows of a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica in the 4400 block of East Mercer Way. A second vehicle was also damaged. The owner of the vehicles had moved them into the street at about 11 a.m. so she could sweep the driveway. The damage occurred before she returned at about 1 p.m. Damage was estimated at $1,150.
A 1996 Mazda Miata MX5 received damage prior to 9:45 a.m. April 23 at a parking lot in the 2900 block of 76th Avenue S.E. The windshield was smashed and there were dents and scratches on the passenger side and front of the vehicle.
DUI
A 25-year-old Spokane man was arrested by Island police at 2:52 a.m. April 23. Police responded to a call about a vehicle off the roadway in the 5400 block of East Mercer Way. The driver of the vehicle told police: “No way, I’m way too drunk to take those,” when asked to take a field sobriety test. His vehicle, a 1995 Ford R110 pickup, left the road and was stuck in the soft shoulder. The man was unsteady on his feet and stumbled a few times when he exited the car, but told police he was not injured and was drinking previously. He was arrested and later released to his employer.
A 31-year-old Mercer Island man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol at about 1 a.m. April 22 in the 5400 block of West Mercer way. The man failed a field sobriety test and was transported and booked into Renton City Jail. The man was reportedly seen driving erratically eastbound on Interstate 90 and was stopped by Island police for driving too fast and weaving over the fogline when driving southbound on West Mercer Way. The man told police he had been drinking because his girlfriend dumped him. He was stopped one week earlier by Island police and cited for driving with his license suspended. He was arrested for DUI a few months prior.
