Mercer Island High School seniors Elizabeth Bachman and Kevin Chung were named as the Rotary Islanders of February.
Bachman, the vice president of the National Honor Society at MIHS, is a girls lacrosse Division I captain and was named the most valuable player in 2009. Once the homecoming queen, she is a Senior Service Club member and National Merit Commended Scholar, and has played violin in the school orchestra for seven years. In the community, she coaches girls lacrosse and is a coach at lacrosse summer camp. She is also an acolyte and lector at Emmanuel Episcopal Church and has participated with Volunteer Outreach in Communities Everywhere (VOICE).
Bachman’s hobbies include photography and piano, and she will major in either international studies or political science in college. She is the daughter of David Bachman and Ann Fenwick.
Chung plays on the MIHS tennis team and is the treasurer of the Key Club, a BRIDGES leader, Senior Service Club member, and musician in the MIHS chamber orchestra. In the community, he has volunteered at the UW Medical Center and with VOICE. He is a youth group leader and youth worship team leader who has participated in local mission trips. In his spare time, he plays cello with the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the MENL All-Northwest orchestra, and he also plays piano and guitar. He competed at the WMEA State Solo/Ensemble Contest in 2010. The son of Peter and Eunjoo Chung, he plans to study neuroscience and minor in music at a four-year university.
