Skateboarders will show off their skills and style at the 2005 Mercer Island Skate Jam. Presented by the Parks and Recreation Department, the 35th North Skateshop and Ethos Skateboards, the event is from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Mercerdale Skate Park, located at 77th Avenue S.E. and S.E. 32nd Street. Registration, which is free, begins at 11:30 a.m.
Age divisions are 12 and under, 13 to 17, and 18 and over. Helmets are required and pads are recommended to participate. Skaters under the age of 18 need a parent or guardian to sign the registration and release form.
The Skate Jam is organized into three categories: Timed runs; best trick; and ledge skate. Select entrants will get a chance to enter into an exhibition game of “Skate” on the stand-alone ledge.
The event will be rescheduled to Saturday, Sept. 24, in case of a rainout.
