Lacrosse honors boys, girls

Two members of the Mercer Island lacrosse programs were named by the Washington state chapter of U.S. Lacrosse to the U.S. Lacrosse High School All-America team.

Caroline Mahoney and Daniel Shields, both seniors at Mercer Island High School, earned the honor along with nine others from around the state.

The boys Division I all-state honors were also recently announced. Five members of the Islanders were named to the first and second teams.

Shields was named to the first team for the second year in a row. Connor Beckwith was also named to the first team. Hap Giraud, Connor Raffey and Steve Caditz were named to the second team.

Mt. Baker crew update

Two members of the Mt. Baker women’s crew team were invited to attend the 2009 Junior Women’s National Team selection camp this summer. Lizzy Vincent, a senior at Mercer Island High School, and Margo Brown, a senior at Lakeside, will take part in the camp. If selected for the team, they will represent the United States at the FISA world rowing junior championships in France in August.

In other rowing news: Claire Ihle, a junior at MIHS, will be attending nationals in June as a member of the junior women’s lightweight 8s team.
