The MIFC Vikings, under 16, won their division of last month’s Federal Way Blast-off Tournament. Following three straight shut-outs against West Sound (1-0), FWU Storm (1-0) and South Sound FC Red (3-0), the Vikings clinched the cup with a 4-3 win in a hard-fought final against FWU Ravens.

MIXC at Edmonds

The Mercer Island High School Cross Country team won the Edmonds Invitational on Saturday as the boys finished first and the girls were second overall.

During the No. 1 race, Evan Sadler finished second with a time of 11:14, while Phoebe Merritt placed second for the girls (13:21). The No. 2-3 race for boys was won by Islander Quinn Chasan (11:16) with Tyler Benster taking third (11:23). On the girls side, Gabi Goyette took 14th (15:13). The No. 4-5 race was won by Islander Molly O’Callahan (14:04), with Lauren Sadler third (14:19). Aaron Elefson took first (11:25) among boys, with Erik Bower finishing sixth (11:55). The No. 6-7 race won by James Kashima (11:54), with Leo Phillips second, finishing one second off his teammates pace. Marny Hoag took first on the girls side (15:05), and Jenny Kim finished with a time of 15:22.

Girls b-ball tryouts

Tryouts for all Island girls basketball players, grades 4-8, will be held Sept. 20-21 at MIHS. Some grades will have two teams. Times are listed at www.migb.org. For more information, call (206) 818-7622.
