Islander Tana Senn was elected tonight, Thursday, Jan. 26, to the Mercer Island City Council by a vote of 4 to 2. Senn, 40, will fill the term of Council Pos. 4 vacated by former mayor and long time Councilmember, Jim Pearman. Her term will expire at the end of 2013.

The process took just 35 minutes.

The four Islanders who submitted an application for the seat included Bob Bersos, Steve Marshall, Benson Wong and Senn. Marshall, Wong and Senn were nominated. Marshall was supported by Mike Grady and Mike Cero. Jane Meyer Brahm supported Wong. Debbie Bertlin and Bruce Bassett backed Senn who was nominated by Dan Grausz. In the third round of voting, Meyer Brahm switched her vote to Senn, giving her the majority of votes.

Senn had put in her name a year ago for the seat left vacant by Steve Litzow when he was elected to the Washington State Legislature. Meyer Brahm was selected at that time. Senn is a communications and marketing professional who has worked at non-profits and holds a masters degree in public administration. She and her husband have a son, 9, and a daughter, 6, and have lived on the Island since 2005.

Senn will be sworn in on Feb. 6.
