Uasha
Uasha

I grew up on Mercer Island and my parents have lived here for over 50 years. I drove up from San Francisco, where I currently live, with my two, nine-year-old Labradors to visit my parents for the holidays.

On Saturday evening, Dec. 20, my chocolate lab Uasha (pronounced Oosha) got spooked and bolted from the house. She ran all the way to Mary Wayte Pool — terrified of being in a strange place. Many Islanders came out of their warm homes to help search for her; even the Mercer Island police assisted, including a very kind Mercer Island police officer, who walked with me with his flashlight looking for her to no avail.

I was finally able to find her by the high school and bring her safely home after a couple hours of her being scared and alone.

I am very thankful to all of you who took the time to help look for her. The citizens of Mercer Island have reminded me of the importance of community and for that, I am especially thankful.
