Undeterred by rain, locals enjoy sights and sips at Mercer Island Art Walk

The lower than usual turnout may have had something to do with the dreary skies and cool temperature, but a handful of hardy Islanders and out-of-towners layered up for the Third Thursday Art Walk themed “Kids Art Fan Fare.” Four-year-old Julius Moricz of Somerset was intent to visit at least eight stops on the map to earn an entry in the raffle, while his grandmother, Katalin Moricz, was interested in all 15 locations. “I like to get ideas for my own paintings,” said Moricz, a watercolor hobbyist, as she perused Yolanda Agress’ oil and acrylic painting inside Bank of America on 8th Street.

Mercerversary, the 50th anniversary celebration of the incorporation of the city of Mercer Island, coincides with the next event on July 15.

The Arts Council celebrates its 25th anniversary the following month and will mark the occasion with a street bazaar. September brings the start of school and an art walk with the theme “Alive after 5.” The final event of the year, held Oct. 21, will celebrate the harvest festival.
