Washington State Department of Transporation (WSDOT) will fully close eastbound Interstate 90 between Seattle and Mercer Island overnight on March 14 for tunnel maintenance. WSDOT will begin to close the bridge’s eastbound lanes and on-ramps at 9 p.m. with the full closure commencing at 10 p.m. WSDOT will reopen all lanes and ramps at 6 a.m. the next morning.
On March 14, WSDOT will kick off its work by closing the following ramps at 8:30 p.m.:
* The southbound Interstate 5 on-ramp to eastbound I-90.
* The northbound and southbound Rainier Avenue South on-ramps to eastbound I-90.
* The I-90 to West Mercer Way off-ramp.
“This closure will allow WSDOT tunnel maintenance crews to perform maintenance in the Mount Baker and Mercer Island Lid tunnels during the lane reduction. This work includes testing the fire suppression system, cleaning the lights and drains, marking drains and road sweeping,” the city said.
King County project intersection closure
As part of King County’s work on the North Mercer Island/Enatai Sewer Upgrade Project, the intersection at 78th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 24th Street will be shuttered to vehicle and bicycle traffic through early April.
According to the city, “During the closure, vehicles and cyclists will detour on Southeast 22nd Place and 80th Avenue Southeast. Pedestrian access will be maintained through the intersection during the closure. Cyclists can also choose to dismount and take the pedestrian route. Access to homes will be maintained.”
