Most people know Jennifer Wright as the Mercer Island School District’s director of learning and technology services. Some know that she was a science teacher at the high school before her current position, but less known is her consistent and unwavering support for the district’s music program. During the 20 plus years that Wright has been involved in the Mercer Island School District, she has gone out of her way to support and celebrate the learning that goes on in the music classrooms. Last month, Wright was recognized for her services by receiving the Washington Music Educators Association’s Friend of Music Award at the annual WMEA annual convention in Yakima, on behalf of the Eastshore Music League. The MISD music staff nominated the district administrator and presented the award during a concert hour at the convention.
As a parent and faculty member, she has managed the district music program websites, including facilitating blogs and community interaction during the band’s trips to China, London and most recently Pasadena for the tournament of Roses Parade. Wright has chaperoned multiple trips and has served on too many committees to count.
As a technology facilitator, Wright went out of her way to encourage and support music-specific trainings and technology such as Charms Music Office Systems, Finale/Sibelius workshops and the purchase and integration of a comprehensive iPad/Macbook “music in the classroom” system.
