Dr. Allen Edward Doan

Dr. Allen Edward Doan, of Issaquah, WA, died on September 27, 2010, hours before his 77th birthday. Allen was born on September 28, 1933 in Dayton, Ohio, the oldest son of Roscius Clinton Doan and Elizabeth Jane Allen Doan. He was raised in Miamisburg, OH and graduated from Miamisburg High School in 1951. He also graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University (1955), and Western Reserve University (1959) where he received his Doctorate in Medicine. He took his internship at Strong Memorial Hospital at The University of Rochester (NY) and his residency at The University of Washington. He met his Bijou Queen, Marlyn Kay Seaman (predeceased Jan. 2005) at Ohio Wesleyan University and they married on April 25, 1959. They moved to Seattle and lived on Mercer Island for over 30 years. Allen started his practice in Bellevue, WA in 1965 and became the first Cardiologist on the Eastside. In 1989 he expanded his practice to Issaquah. Besides helping his patients, Allen helped start the Medic 1 Emergency program in Bellevue, was the Medical Director of Bellevue Fire Department (1971-1982), Officer and President of Seattle Chapter of the American Heart Association, and Chief of Staff at Overlake Hospital Medical Center (1984).Allen was an outdoor enthusiast and loved his family. He enjoyed fishing, clamming, hiking, kayaking, biking, and skiing. He and Marlyn enjoyed their membership in The Mountaineers Club and created lasting relationships. He loved traveling to foreign countries. He was also a prankster. When one of his daughters was recovering from surgery, he brought in an IV bag that had a Beta fish in it. He walked his daughter through the halls of Overlake Hospital creating a scene. And when in the Yukon, he found some ‘moose marbles’ and plopped them into a friend’s drink. Allen was loved by all and his great sense of humor and huge heart will be greatly missed. He is survived by his children; David Doan; Amy Monsen (Kurt); Laura Wierleski (Gary), 6 grandchildren; Brandon, Zach, Hanna, Ben, Alise and Bjorn, and two brothers; Rosh (Ginger Warfield) Doan and David (Susan Callander) Doan.Services will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at 1:00pm, at Sunset Hills Memorial Park, 1215 145th Place NE, Bellevue, WA 98007. Following the services there will be a reception for family and friends. The family suggests donations to Overlake Hospital Foundation, Coronary Care Unit, in lieu of flowers.
