Allen G. Larson
Allen G. Larson, age 85, of Mercer Island died peacefully at home on February 15 with his family by his side. Allen was born on November 11, 1924 to Jay G. and Lina Larson in Helena, Montana. The family came to Seattle in 1928 when his father accepted a position with the Dexter Horton National Bank, which subsequently merged with the Seattle National and First National Bank and through various name changes, became Seattle First National Bank and now Bank of America. Allen attended John Muir Elementary School and Franklin High School where he was a member of the golf team and band. Following his service in World War II as an Army Air Corps bandsman, he attended the University of Mexico and graduated from the University of Washington, where he was a rowing crew manager and a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Following graduation from the U. of W. he was appointed Assistant National Bank Examiner in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He later resigned to join the Insurance and Surety Bonding firm of Dawson and Feek, Inc. Banking, however, was in his blood and he returned home to join Seattle First National Bank where he served for twenty years before finishing his banking career with Northshore First National Bank in Bothell. Following his retirement from banking he subsequently worked in real estate as an Associate Broker with Windermere Realty. It was during his early years at Seafirst that he met and fell in love with Corrine Houghtaling, and they were happily married for fifty-five years. They moved to Mercer Island in 1955 to raise their family. Allen served his community as treasurer of the Downtown Seattle, Mercer Island, and East Bellevue Kiwanis Clubs and for many years was Chairman of the King County Multiple Sclerosis Association. He and Corrine were longtime members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on the island. Allen loved traveling, tending his roses and garden, and following the Mariners, Seahawks, and Husky football, but above all loved his family and cherished every minute he spent with his five grandchildren. He was an exceptional role model to all who knew him and will be deeply missed.Allen was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy L. Nelson of Mercer Island. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Corrine, son Brent (Tobi) Larson, daughters Betsey (Peter) Adum and Amy (C.J.) Bernard, and grandchildren Mallory and Dennis Larson and James, Nicole, and Michael Bernard. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Allen’s excellent team of doctors and their assistants: Drs. Gregory John and Gloria; Jon Huseby and Diane; Jad Swingle and Elaine; and last but not least, Dr. Henry Li. The Family also sends thanks to Swedish Visiting Nurse Services Hospice for their compassionate care. Please join us at 1:00 PM on March 5 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Mercer Island for a memorial service to celebrate Al’s life. In lieu of flowers, suggested memorials to The Salvation Army, Children’s Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
