Arlyn Newell Wagner

Arlyn Newell Wagner passed away on August 29, 2016.

He was born November 9, 1942 in Lexington Kentucky to the late Arlyn Orville and Helen Newell Wagner. He spent his childhood in Lexington where he shared many adventures with his friends. He attended Henry Clay High School and Kentucky Military Institute. In 1965 he graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.S. in Business Administration and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Newell worked in the field of finance for over 46 years ending with retirement from Ameriprise Financial Services in 2015. He enjoyed his profession, especially working with clients and investments.

He also enjoyed taking his family on wonderful road trips. He had many hobbies and interests such as chess, photography, reading, bridge, and he was a member of the Queens Own – Washington Scale Warship Association. He was a political precinct chairman, and a member of the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church Foundation.

Newell took the very best care of his family always showing great love and concern. He was also sweet, kind, and a patient big brother to his sister. He had a curious mind, fantastic memory, and a wonderful smile. He was a lover of history and facts with which he entertained us all.

He is survived by his wife Anne of 49 years and his daughters Miranda Wagner and Melinda Wagner, a sister Mary Sydney Mitchell (Charles), two step-brothers Berry Hall (Susan) and Ewing Hall (Diann) and nephews and nieces.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the ICU doctors and staff at Overlake Hospital for being so caring and respectful.

A celebration of life will be held October 2 at 2pm at the Mercer Island Beach Club.
