Frances Cordelia (Cordee) Knebel | Obituary

July 1942 – February 2024

We lost our sweet devoted mother, Cordee Knebel on Feb. 9th. She passed peacefully in her sleep. She was the foundation of our family and we will miss her loving presence every day.

She was born to John and Frances Cushing on 7.27.42 in Sitka, AK. She spent 3 years of her early life living in Milwaukee, WI with her grandmother and many cousins while her own mother put herself through the UW. These were among her favorite memories.

She was a woman of deep faith and believed prayer could move mountains. Our mother had the most beautiful soul and left her mark on everyone she met. She was everyone’s Nana – her proudest role. Her family was her pride and joy.

Her passions were her faith, America, genealogy, WSU football, Green Bay Packers, baking , church potlucks, canning pickles, Hallmark movies, dogs and her famous cinnamon rolls.

Her extended family near and far, as well as her church communities brought her so much joy. She cherished each relationship deeply.

Our mother was extremely patriotic and devoted to her country. She respected and was thankful to all members of our armed forces past and present. She was proud to be an American.

Cordee was predeceased by her mother Frances Zeer Cushing, father John F. Cushing and her sister Johanna Cushing. She is survived by her husband, Derwood Knebel, her children Chris (Steve) Baird, Fred (Kelly) Knebel, and Tim (Rachel) Knebel. Her grandchildren Tye (Kristina), Caitlin (Jeff ), Mackenzie (Will), Colton, Tory (Kaleigh), Lauren (Palmer) and Haley. Her great-grandsons Kam, Timothy, Trey, and Grayson with two more babies due in April. Her sister Cheri King, nephew Sherman Leifer.

Our mother leaves behind a zest for life, immense love and laughter. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Swedish Hosp. 1st Hill NICU unit, Wounded Warriors Project or Future Farmers of America in her honor. A service was held 2.23.24 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, M.I.
