MILTON PETER CLAMPITT

Milton Peter Clampitt died on April 9, 2017 with his wife, JoAnne, by his side. Milt was born April 16, 1935 on the family farm in Sumner, Washington. He grew up in Lakewood, graduating in 1953 from Clover Park High School. He attended the University of Washington, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. In 1954, he met JoAnne Bolan, who became the love of his life. After graduating with a BA in Business Administration, they married on June 8, 1957. Following in the footsteps of his father, he started his first dry cleaners in Seward Park. In 1959, Milt and JoAnne moved the dry cleaning business to Mercer Island, where they raised their four children, and grew the business to seven locations across the greater Eastside.

While living on Mercer Island for 48 years, Milt served on the boards of Mercer Island Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, and Youth Services. He also served on the boards of Christmas in April (Rebuilding Together Seattle) and Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. In addition, he spent time on the University Of Washington Alumni Membership committee and Seattle University School of Theology Development committee. Milt and JoAnne were also active members of St. Monica Catholic Church.

Family came first to Milt. He was proud of his extended family. He loved to read, draw, and spend time in Hawaii. Thousands of University of Washington Husky fans were recipients of his gracious hospitality at his famous football tailgates. Milt never met a person who was not a friend. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and kind heart touched all those whom he encountered.
