Velda Blanche Broz

Velda Blanche Broz passed away June 13, 2015, in Seattle at the age of 90.

Blanche was born on April 24, 1925, in Russell County, Kentucky, the daughter of Arnold and Leitha Holder. She graduated from Berea College in Berea, KY, with an Associate of Arts in Economics. Upon graduation she moved to Washington, DC where she was a secretary for Senator John McClellan, who served on the Senate Appropriations Committee. It was there that she met Richard F. Broz, to whom she was married for 50 years until his death in 2002.

Richard and Blanche moved to Mercer Island in 1953, where Blanche enjoyed many years as a devoted wife and mother. Always placing family first, she supported Richard’s legal career and raised two sons, William Richard Broz and Mitchell August Broz. Blanche was active in the Seattle Assistance League, where she served in several capacities including President. Her family would like to express its appreciation to the staffs of Ida Culver House – Broadview and of Northwest Hospital, where she received excellent care in her later years.

Blanche is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Gina Broz, of Santa Monica, California; daughter-in-law Sharon Christiansen Broz of Coupeville, Washington; and sister Norma Petitt Small of Pinehurst, North Carolina.

A graveside remembrance for family and friends will take place 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue. Please RSVP to William Broz at 310-562-3141 or wbroz@comcast.net.
