Vincent James Wormser

Vincent James Wormser, born April 11, 1919 in Boston MA, peacefully died after a long illness September 6, 2012 at home on Mercer Island. He was a MI pioneer and longtime resident. Lt. Colonel Vince Wormser, Air Force Reserve retired. During WWII, Captain Vince Wormser headed up the training of crews of B17, B24, and was prepared to fly B29 for missions into Japan. After the war Vince was one of the pioneer pilots for the All Weather Flying Center at Clinton Army Air field. Vince then became a commercial airline pilot flying numerous planes, but his favorite was the Boeing 727 which was the plane he retired in as United Airlines Senior pilot. He was ta Seattle Rep. for ALPA. Vince also flew in operation “Magic Carpet” airlifting Yemenite Jews to the newly created nation of Israel. Vince loved boating, was an accomplished fisherman and a devoted family man. He and his loving wife Johnnie regularly attended Mercer Island Covenant Church. Vince was a founding stock holder of Crystal Mountain, and he and the family enjoyed skiing. Vince was also the Pilot for the UW Husky Football team in the Jim Owens era, a season ticket holder for over 45 yrs, and remained an avid Husky football fan/ Tyee supporter. He also volunteered as coach for MI little league teams. Vince was preceded in death by his wife Irene “Johnnie” Wormser and is survived by his children: Susan Erne and husband Michael, Vickie Wormser Carper and husband Stan; Steve Wormser, and Scott Wormser. His grand children: Gabe Carper, Cameron Black and wife Tracie, Cherise Davis, and husband Phil; Mike Carper, and Talia Wormser. Service will be at 10:30 am Saturday September 22, 2012 at the Mercer Island Covenant Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mercer Island Covenant Church.
