Disappointed in vehement campaign to discourage voters | Letter

There's no doubt that everyone on the Island supports our high quality parks and arts programs. We're fortunate to live in a city with such wonderful opportunities to enjoy nature and culture right in our backyards.

There’s no doubt that everyone on the Island supports our high quality parks and arts programs. We’re fortunate to live in a city with such wonderful opportunities to enjoy nature and culture right in our backyards.

I’m disappointed, however, in such a vehement campaign to discourage voters from even signing a petition that would allow us to vote on the issue. Almost, if not more disappointing, is that when I expressed a reasonable dissenting opinion on the Support MI Parks and Arts Facebook page, it was promptly removed. Democracy allows citizens the right to make choices about issues that concern them and to have a political discourse about them. Support MI Parks and Arts seems to feel otherwise.

I urge others to sign the petition, even those who don’t support the proposal, so that the residents of the Island have the opportunity to make a well-informed choice on the issue for themselves.
