My wife has been working with scores of students and parents to improve Luther Burbank Park through art. It’s wonderful that we also have folks willing to improve Mercerdale park through the arts.
They are privately financing MICA, which will enable Mercer Island to have an arts and cultural center right where it belongs — in a park. Great downtown parks throughout the world have great buildings (often art-centric). This is our chance to make Mercerdale world-class.
I will not sign the petition that will (if voted on and passed), in effect, prevent Mercer Island from having MICA created in the park. What a loss that would be for our city, our residents, students and our region. Preventing improvement of parks is not a good thing — and certainly not protecting our parks. Please join me in not signing the petition.
