Four Islanders advance to state golf finals

Four members of the boys and girls Mercer Island High School golf team advanced to the second day of the state championships in Richland, Wash.

Charlie Kern, a sophomore for the boys team, made the cut after posting a 75 on day one, tying with six others for the seventh place position. He was three strokes behind the leader heading into the final day of the competition.

On the girls team Chelsee Saelee, Lindsay Chinn and Haley Chinn each advanced. Saelee finished the day fifth with a 77, ten strokes behind the leader. Lindsay Chinn was sixth going into the final round, tied with three other 3A golfers with a 79 while her younger sister Haley was 13th in the group after shooting an 82.

The Islander girls other teammates Alana Brooks, who finished 43rd with a 94 and Sarah Peterson, 60th with a 98, did not make it to the second day of the competition.
