Islander girls golf take second at state

The Mercer Island girls golf team took second at state as the 3A state tournament wrapped up in Richland today.

The team, which finished with 91 points, was second only to Holy Names Academy, which finished with 107 points and three girls in the top 10. Katrina Hegge of Seattle Prep brought home the individual title with a total of 139.

Sisters Lindsay and Haley Chinn finishing in the 13th and 14th place spots respectively. Lindsay Chinn had a final score of 163, after an 79 and 84 on day two. Freshman Haley Chinn finished 17th overall, shooting an 82 on day one and 83 on day two for a 165 total.

Chelsee Saelee finished 40th after disqualifying on the second day with a tournament total of 155. Her day one total was 77.

Charlie Kern, a sophomore at MIHS and the boys team lone qualifier, finished 22nd overall in the boys tournament, part of a four way tie for 19th place in the tournament. He finished with a two day total of 152, after a 75 on day one and 77 on day two. The first place finisher, from Camas High School, won the 3A boys title with a two day total of 141.
