The Liberty Patriots opened with three quick touchdowns against Mercer Island and limited the Islanders on the other side of the ball to beat Mercer Island 42-21 Friday night at Liberty High School.

Mercer Island (1-1) struggled to get its ground game going against the Patriots (2-0), with the Liberty defense holding the Islanders to under 30 yards rushing, as the Patriots maintained their advantage throughout. Jordano Mark ran for a touchdown for the Islanders, and Nikhil Nayar threw touchdown passes to Cole Miller and Mitchell Mandt.

Next, Mercer Island will travel to Yakima to take on Eisenhower (1-1) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at Zaepfel Stadium. The Cadets lost to Jackson High 28-23 Friday evening.
