The Mercer Island girls basketball team beat Juanita in double overtime on Friday, Jan. 11. Juanita, previously undefeated in KingCo, fell 57-46 to the Islanders.

The game started with both teams tied at four points at the end of the first quarter, but Mercer Island had a big second quarter, scoring 11 points while holding the Rebels to just four to take the lead. Juanita bounced back with 12 points in the third, keeping the Islanders to 10, but it was a big finish for the Rebels with 14 points that tied the game, sending it to overtime.

Both teams scored seven points in the first set after regulation time, but Mercer Island prevailed in the second set, hitting 16 points to win the game.

Kris Brackmann had 17 points in the win, while Julia Blumenstein added 15 to the scoreboard. Twins Rachael and Renae Tessem each scored seven points, Jessica Blakesee added six, Christina Williamson had three and Jamie Mounger added two.

Mercer Island will host Sammamish on Wednesday, Jan. 16 and Interlake on Friday, Jan. 18.
