Mercer Island beats Skyline by 12 points | Boys swim and dive

The Mercer Island swim team took on Skyline on Wednesday, Jan. 16, winning the meet by 12 points. The final team score was 97-85 for the Islanders.

Skyline won the 200 medley relay race with a final time of 1:47.09. The Mercer Island team of Ben Gore, Tanner Martinez, Ian Caldwell and Brandt Waesche took second with a time of 1:47.43.

Andrew Fukuda finished second in the 200 freestyle race in 1:58.53, while Samuel Peterson was third in 1:59.74. Austin Ralph was fourth overall in 2:02.53 minutes.

Jack Larkin took the second place spot in the 200 individual medley race in 2:17.30, while Peter Litzow was third in 2:17.34.

Waesche earned a personal win in the 50 freestyle race, finishing in 23.21 to qualify for the district meet. Islander temmate Matthew Hanson finished in second place in 24.18. Gore finished in four in 24.71.

Islander Cody Hall was second overall in the diving competition with 188.55 points. Max Levy won the event for Skyline after amassing 238.25 points.

Caldwell was the winner of the 100 butterfly race, finishing in 58.12 seconds, followed by Martinez in second place in 58.25 seconds.

In the 100 freestyle event, Litzow was second in 55.18, followed by Keoni Ogawa in fifth place and Nick Swaya in sixth place overall.

Gore finished in second place in the 500 freestyle race, finishing the event in 5:19.68 to qualify for districts. Jack Larkin was third overall in 5:40.40.

The Mercer Island team of Waesche, Caldwell, Peterson and Ralph won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.50.

Teddy Larkin won the 100 backstroke event in 1:00.88, while Martinez was the top finisher in the 100 breast stroke event in 1:08.43.

Mercer Island will take on Garfield on Friday, Jan. 18 at Medgar Evers Pool in Seattle. The meet is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
