Mercer Island sweeps Lake Washington for fifth-straight meet win | Prep girls tennis

The Mercer Island girls tennis team picked up its fifth-straight meet win Thursday, sweeping Lake Washington 7-0 at Mercer Island High School. The win also marked the Islanders' fifth-consecutive sweep of their opponents since falling to the first-place Interlake Saints 4-3 on March 31.

In singles, Sammy Sweet defeated Kelly Barnes 6-4, 6-1. Grace Bethards won over Olivia Nguyen 6-0, 6-1. Kimia Preston beat Maia Anderson 6-0, 6-1, and Chloe Gage beat Saba Tabatnabai 6-1, 6-1.

The doubles matches saw wins from Caroline Hamilton and Miji Suhr over Grace Allenstein and Natalie Suvak 6-1, 6-0; Sarah Sweet and Fiona Brasfield over Amanda Kaufman and Megan Geitmenian 6-0, 6-1; and Claire Mansfield and Rachel Tang over Anna Hubbard and Keely Ferrenu 6-1, 6-1.

Mercer Island closes its KingCo regular season against Bellevue on Tuesday at Bellevue High School. Both teams are 4-1 against their league counterparts this year, with both squads falling to the 5-0 Saints.
