In their last conference match of the year, the Mercer Island wrestling team beat Interlake Thursday, Dec. 15. The Islanders won 40-37.
The first win of the night belonged to Luke Wilson in the 106 class. He beat Marcus Kopp by major decision with a 10-0 score.
In the 113 group, Taylan Yuasa beat Douglass Mui by fall in 3:05. Scott Lee earned a win for the Islanders at 120 when Interlake forfeited. In the next group, 126, Jacob Pruncho faced off against Nathan Jochum. Pruncho earned the win, by fall after 3:36 hard fought minutes. Interlake earned it’s first points of the night when Nestor Quijada beat Jimyoung Kim in the 132 class by fall in 3:19.
The Saints picked up another win in the 138 weight class. This time Daniel Montoya beat Theodore Chandler by fall in 1:21. Kenji Walker took the winning back to Mercer Island in the 145 class by beating Joseph Button by fall in 3:11. Interlake’s Jacob Wilson took the win in the 152 weight class, beating Jack Vassau by major decision with a 12-2 score. Blake Johnson won the 160 when Interlake forfeited.
Nicholas Chandler won the 170 class by fall over Bhekinkosi Simango in 1:23. Haines Giseburt, from Interlake, won the 182 class over Brian Rauzi by decision with a 13-9 score. Ernesto Cancilla won the 195 class by fall over Daniel Stanke with 2:43. The Islanders’ Chad Peterson won by forfeit and Interlake’s Fine Ngauamo took the final match of the night beating Preston Melick by fall in 35 seconds.
