MIHS baseball hosts alumni and fan appreciation night

Mercer Island High School (MIHS) baseball honored alumni and fans, with a special spotlight on Greg Fuchs, class of 2018, on April 4 at Island Crest Park. MIHS beat Capital, 5-4.

At MIHS, Fuchs was named 2017 3A all-KingCo first team and all-state first team; and 2018 3A all-KingCo first team and all-state first team, along with 3A KingCo most valuable player with a .486 batting average. Fuchs went on to play in 88 games for Oregon State University from 2019-2022, and 32 games for Washington State University in 2023, with more than 300 at-bats in the Pac-12 Conference.

MIHS baseball also celebrated new head coach Chris Lawler, class of 2014. Lawler played for former head coach Dominic Woody at MIHS, where he was named first team 3A all-KingCo his senior year as well as an all-state selection. In his three years on varsity, he had a combined 1.44 ERA, including a 1.29 ERA his senior year. In five KingCo starts, he gave up two earned runs total across 36 innings. Lawler went on to play at the collegiate level at the University of San Diego. Lawler also joined the MIHS basketball coaching staff this year as head coach for the fall and spring leagues. Lawler is joined on staff by varsity assistant coaches and fellow 2014 alums Keegan Ogard and Michael Petrie.
