When the KingCo Conference rolled out its Mountain Division girls soccer all-league selections last month, eight Mercer Island High School players were emblazoned on the list.
Senior Hannah Savoy notched the Defensive Player of the Year honor, first-teamers are sophomore midfielder Jackie Gonzalez and seniors Hannah Hsu (midfielder) and Anna Carson (forward), second-teamers are junior midfielder Blakeley Bourke and sophomore midfielder Hayden Feimster, and honorable mentions are senior forward Anna Marsh and senior defender Maggie Blohm.
The girls finished second at 6-2-2 in the Mountain Division and 11-3-3 overall. In the 3A KingCo tournament, they beat Sammamish, 7-0, and lost to Inglemoor, 2-0.
In a previous Reporter article, Savoy said that one of her favorite parts of playing Islander ball has been learning how to work with a diverse set of teammates.
“Everybody has their own interests and stuff off the field. It’s really nice that we can just come together and all play a game we all like to play. It’s been great getting to lead everybody and get to know all these different people,” she said.
In the classroom, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association named the Islander team the 3A girls soccer academic state champions with a combined 3.94 grade-point average.
