Northwest Yeshiva takes fifth place at state

Northwest Yeshiva High School’s boys basketball team notched fifth place at the 1B state tournament March 2-5 at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Lions (17-5-1 overall) won their first two games against Naselle, 60-48, and Willapa Valley, 50-40, to burst into the semifinals.

Almira Coulee Hartline beat the Lions, 52-43, in the semis and Sunnyside Christian topped the locals, 44-38, in the third-/fifth-place game.

Backed by a 22-point effort from Yoel Kintzer and 12 points each from Victor Maimon and Dovi Goldberg, Northwest Yeshiva defeated Naselle in the March 2 opener. Kintzer added 11 rebounds.

On March 3 against Willapa Valley, Kintzer had 24 points, Eli Weiss had 14 points and Maimon had 13 rebounds.

In the semis on March 4, Kintzer and Goldberg had 15 points each, and in the March 5 game, Kintzer had 19 points and Maimon snagged 11 rebounds.
